Bethany Village Leprosy Society works to support positive development programmes in Bethany Leprosy Coloy, South India, with the goal of increasing self-sufficiency for the people there. Within this framework, BVLS’s trustees consider annual requests for funding from Bethany to cover:
¨ the running costs (including salaries) of Bethany’s central office, which co-ordinates all the wealth generation and social welfare programmes operating in the village;
¨ vocational training for young people who have grown up in the community, where their training will increase their opportunities of finding employment on their completion;
¨ other essential costs which are not met by other aid agencies and which contribute to Bethany’s long term goals. In recent years this has included funding for emergency medical care and school meals for all Bethany’s school children.
